Fla. a top state for identify theft

ORLANDO, Fla. – Nov. 30, 2016 – WalletHub conducted a study to identify the U.S. states most vulnerable to identity theft and fraud, and Florida ranked near the top of its 2016 list. After combining the scores in six categories, Florida came in third after Washington, D.C., and California.
To measure the level of susceptibility to such crimes for each state, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across six key metrics. The data set ranges from “identity-theft complaints per capita” to “average loss amount due to fraud.”
Florida’s identity theft and fraud vulnerability (1=most vulnerable; 25=avg.)
1st – Identity-theft complaints per capita
15th – Avg. loss amount due to online identity theft
1st – Fraud & other complaints per capita
23rd – Avg. loss amount due to fraud
25th – State security-freeze laws for minors’ credit reports
1st – Identity-theft passport program
