The Loews Miami Beach is in the midst of a significant renovation that will overhaul the lobby, pool deck and other areas of the 790-room hotel down to installing easier to reach plugs.
The three-year, $50 million renovation started in July, Loews Corporation Co-Chairman Jonathan Tisch told the Miami Herald.  The project is aimed at bringing the hotel up to date by doubling the lobby size, adding a grab-and-go bar, pizza oven and an indoor/outdoor bar. The guest rooms and bars are also being renovated, and new carpets installed.
The pool and pool deck, meanwhile, have already been rebuilt, Tisch told the newspaper. So has the new kids club. One of the hotel’s restaurants, now called Preston’s, now has an open kitchen.
The Loews, at 1601 Collins Avenue, has reported cancellations due to Zika.
Tisch also said that he thinks a convention center hotel, which was voted down by residents, would be “positive” for the marketplace. “We think that more rooms will lead to different kinds of groups that will be using the Miami Beach Convention Center, and so we have been supportive of that effort,” he told the Herald.
