TAMPA, Fla. – Oct. 18, 2016 – In Tampa Bay apartment communities, swimming pools, conference centers for resident use and fitness facilities have become almost standard amenities.
So what’s the next big thing?
“It’s about creating a differentiated experience for residents,” says Jay Curran, vice president of multifamily development in Florida and Georgia for Crescent Communities.
Increasingly, Curran says, part of that experience includes how package deliveries are handled in apartment buildings. Residents want convenient, secure deliveries, but the volume of packages overwhelms some property management offices at a time when online shopping is expected to increase in the coming years.
To accommodate this new renter demand, many multifamily housing developers plan to include additional storage space for the packages.
Some are even planning for the next big thing: online grocery shopping. To this end, Crescent will build flexible space that it can adapt to whatever comes next, whether it’s drone deliveries or cold storage for grocery delivery.
“We’re not seeing a lot of it yet,” Curran says of on-site cold storage, but “we anticipate there will be a time we need to be building those pieces in.”
