County-owned Palm Beach International Airport issued a request for proposals for the first hotel development on airport grounds.
The 10-acre site is located west of Belvedere Road and Australian Avenue in West Palm Beach. HVS Consulting & Valuation in Miami conducted a market study for the airport and recommended a 150-room hotel for the site.
Laura Beebe, deputy director of airport business affairs for Palm Beach County, told the Palm Beach Post “the timing is right” for a hotel development on the grounds of Palm Beach International Airport: “We’ve been talking about it for quite a while.”
She also told the newspaper that solid tourism in Palm Beach County has stoked optimism about the prospects of an airport hotel.
Airport officials plan to meet with interested developers on January 27 to detail the proposal process. Proposals from developers are due March 21. [Sun-Sentinel] — Mike Seemuth
