Real estate agents report bizarre, threatening calls

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Dec. 9, 2015 – Following on the heels of a report this week of an alleged cyberstalker in Leesville, La., threatening real estate agents, a seemingly unrelated case emerged in South Carolina on Monday.
A real estate professional in Greenville, S.C., says she received a phone call on Monday morning from a man who threatened violent sex crimes against her family members. The man claimed to have a family member in his possession and mentioned her and her child by name. He allegedly demanded the agent do what he wanted or he was going to rape the family members, WYFF4-Greenville reports.
He was “very explicit and intimidating” and demanded she answer sexual questions. The agent hung up on him. She then confirmed her relatives – who live in another state – were safe. She contacted Greenville police to report the incident.
Another Greenville real estate professional in Anderson County as well as two others in Greenville County also reported receiving a threatening phone call from a man between 5 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Monday. All four women work for different real estate brokerages.
WYFF4-Greenville reports that in each of the calls the man allegedly began by saying he is an ambulance driver at the scene of an accident involving family members. He then instructs the female agents to leave the room if their husband is present. He follows up with a sexually explicit, threatening conversation, according to police.
In February, a real estate agent in Escambia County, Fla., reported receiving a similar call from a blocked number. The man reportedly told the agent that her sister had been in an accident and that he and his friends were high on drugs and were at the scene of the accident. The man allegedly told the agent that he was going to hurt her sister if the agent didn’t do what he said. She hung up and contacted 911 immediately.
The Greenville agent, who called the incident “the scariest things that ever happened” to her, is warning other agents to be careful how their information is shared on the Internet and to keep their Facebook pages private. She’s also warning agents to never answer blocked calls.
