Realtors connect with Colombian real estate cohorts

BOGOTA, Columbia – Nov. 9, 2015 – Florida Realtors® led a trade mission to Colombia last month. On the trip, 28 Realtors from various areas of the state connected with Realtors in Colombia.
On the Oct. 25-31 trade missions, participants promoted real estate investment opportunities in Florida and, at the same time, learned about investment opportunities in Colombia. The trade mission was open to all Florida Realtors members. Throughout the five-day trip, Realtors from Florida had the opportunity to network with Realtors and business partners from Bogota, Cali, Medellin and Barranquilla.
Florida is home to more Colombian immigrants than any other U.S. state, and Colombia is Florida’s second largest foreign export market.
In recent years, almost 40 percent of U.S. exports to Colombia have moved through Florida. Of Florida’s international real estate investments – total dollar value hit $23.4 billion for the year ending in June 2015 – 7 percent of buyers hailed from Columbia, representing about $1.64 million in Florida real estate sales. In 2014, Columbian buyers made up only 4 percent.
“This trade mission had two goals: one was for Florida Realtors to promote the attractiveness and affordability of real estate in Florida to Colombians; and the second goal was to learn of real estate opportunities in Colombia,” says Andrew Barbar, President of Florida Realtors. “Colombians living in Florida are looking for second homes in Colombia, and this trade mission allowed us to see the immense real estate opportunities in Colombia.”
During the trade mission, participants discussed a potential inbound trade mission to Florida from Colombia next year. Florida Realtors plans to work hard with FEDELONJAS (The National Real Estate Association in Colombia) to make it happen.
